Cookie Policy

This page describes the cookies and similar technologies used on the VVS LAND storefront, who controls them, and why. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers the rest of our data practices.

Necessary — Shopify storefront & checkout

Our store and checkout run on Shopify. When you use your shopping bag or check out, Shopify — the platform that powers our checkout — may place cookies and similar technologies needed for those core functions to work, such as maintaining your session and helping prevent fraud. These are required for checkout to function and aren't optional.

Shopify analytics cookies

Shopify also sets two cookies of its own — _shopify_s (identifies your browser session together with our shop) and _shopify_y (used by Shopify for its own analytics/reporting) — as part of hosting our checkout. In our own testing, these appear once you begin checkout, not from browsing the site alone.

These are set and controlled by Shopify as part of the checkout infrastructure it operates for our store, not by VVS LAND's own website code — we can't independently disable them. Shopify's own privacy and cookie documentation describes how it uses this data.

Vercel Web Analytics & Speed Insights (optional)

VVS LAND offers Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights — privacy-focused tools from Vercel, the company that hosts our site — as an optional category you can accept or reject using the privacy choices banner or the Privacy Preferences link below. They're not enabled by default: we only initialize them after you choose "Accept Analytics" (or turn Analytics on and save your preferences). Vercel states that Web Analytics does not use cookies, and instead relies on a temporary, request-derived identifier that's discarded after 24 hours rather than a persistent tracking cookie. Even when you've accepted, this service also honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal the same way described in our Privacy Policy. If you reject or haven't yet decided, it stays off.

Personalization (optional)

VVS LAND can also use your recently viewed products (see Local storage below) to influence the order products are displayed in — for example, showing more of the category you've been browsing first. This is a separate optional category from Analytics above: we only use your view history for this purpose after you choose "Accept All" or turn Personalization on in Privacy Preferences. If you reject it, haven't decided, or your browser sends the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, product order instead uses an anonymous per-session shuffle — a random seed held only in your browser's session storage, cleared automatically when you close the tab, and never derived from your browsing history.

Marketing & advertising

We do not currently use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or any other third-party advertising or marketing tracking technology on the VVS LAND storefront.

Local storage & session storage

Separately from cookies, your browser also locally stores your shopping bag, recently viewed products, accessibility preferences, and your privacy choices from the banner below (whether you accepted or rejected Analytics and Personalization), so the site works smoothly between visits and remembers your choices — see the Privacy Policy for details on the first three. If you haven't accepted the Personalization category, your browser separately holds a random, anonymous product-order seed in session storage, which is cleared automatically when you close the tab rather than persisting like the local storage items above. None of this is a cookie, and recording your privacy choices itself never requires you to accept Analytics or Personalization first.

Your choices

Use the privacy choices banner on your first visit, or Privacy Preferences below at any time afterward, to accept, reject, or change the optional Analytics and Personalization categories. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies in their settings, though doing so may prevent checkout from working correctly since Shopify's checkout cookies are required for that function. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights or choices under applicable privacy law regarding cookies and similar technologies — those rights can vary by location, so we recommend reviewing the laws that apply to you if you have specific questions.
